- Agatha Awards
- The Agatha Awards honor the traditional mystery - books best typified by the works of Agatha Christie. The genre is generally characterized by mysteries that contain no explicit sex, excessive gore, or gratuitous violence; usually featuring an amateur detective, they have a confined setting and characters who know one another.
- Booker Prize
- The Man Booker Prize for Fiction represents the very best in contemporary fiction. One of the world’s most prestigious awards, and one of incomparable influence, it continues to be the pinnacle of ambition for every fiction writer. The Booker Prize aims to reward the best novel of the year written by a citizen of the Commonwealth or the Republic of Ireland. - Each year, the Horror Writer's Association presents the Bram Stoker Awards for Superior Achievement, named in honor of Bram Stoker, author of the seminal horror work, Dracula.
- National Book Award
- Through The National Book Awards -- the nation's preeminent literary prize – the National Book Foundation recognizes books of exceptional merit written by Americans.
- National Book Critics Circle
- Every year the NBCC presents awards for the finest books and reviews published in English.
- Nebula Awards
- The Nebula Awards are administered, voted and presented by the Science Fiction Writers of America (SFWA) to acknowledge excellence in science fiction writing.
- New York Times Bestsellers
- The New York Times Best Seller List is a weekly chart that tracks the week's best-selling books in the United States. Unlike some subsequent lists of best sellers, The New York Times list is not based upon total sales figures, but instead upon surveys of a selected sample of retail booksellers.
- Oprah's Book Club

- Pulitzer Prize
- The Pulitzer Prize is an American award regarded as the highest honor in print journalism, literary achievements, and musical compositions. It is administered by Columbia University in New York City.
- PW Bestsellers
- Publishers Weekly's list of bestsellers in 13 categories.
- RITA Awards
- Romance Writers of America's RITA is the highest award of excellence in the genre of romance fiction.
- Spur Awards
- The Spur Award is an annual literary prize awarded by the Western Writers of America. Founded in 1953 with only four categories (western novel, historical novel, juvenile and short story), the award today has expanded to include 16 categories in both fiction and non-fiction.
- The Edgars
- The Edgar Allan Poe Awards (the "Edgars") are named after MWA's patron saint, Edgar Allan Poe, and are awarded to authors of distinguished work in various categories of the mystery genre.

- ALSC Notables List
- Each year the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association, identifies the best of the best in children’s books.
- Boston Globe-Horn Book Award
- The Boston Globe-Horn Book Awards are among the most prestigious honors in the field of children's and young adult literature. Winners are selected in three categories: Picture Book, Fiction and Poetry, and Nonfiction. The winning titles must be published in the United States but they may be written or illustrated by citizens of any country. The awards are chosen by an independent panel of three judges who are annually appointed by the Editor of the Horn Book.
- Coretta Scott King Award
- The Coretta Scott King Book Award is presented annually by the Coretta Scott King Committee of the American Library Association's Ethnic Multicultural Information Exchange Round Table (EMIERT). The award is given to an African American author and an African American illustrator of children's and young adult literature for an outstandingly inspirational and educational contribution.
- John Newbery Medal
- The Newbery Medal is given by the American Library Association to the author of the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children.
- Kentucky Bluegrass Award
- An annual award for the best children's book as chosen by the students of the state of Kentucky. The KBA is one of approximately 45 "children's choice" awards nationwide.
- Michael L. Printz Award
- The Printz Award is given by the American Library Association to the author of a book that exemplifies literary excellence in young adult literature.
- Pura Belpre Award
- The Belpre Award medal is given by the American Library Association and the National Association to Promote Library and Information Services to Latinos and the Spanish-Speaking (REFORMA) to a Latino/Latina writer and illustrator whose works best portray, affirm, and celebrate the Latino cultural experience in an outstanding work of literature for children and youth.
- Randolph Caldecott Medal
- The Caldecott Medal is given by the American Library Association to the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children.
- Robert F. Sibert Informational Book Award
- The Sibert Medal is given by the American Library Association to the author (including co-authors and author-illustrators) of the most distinguished informational book published during the preceding year.
- YALSA’s Best Books for Young Adults
- The Young Adult Library Services Association of the American Library Association prepares this annual list of recommended books for ages 12 – 18. The books meet the criteria of both good quality literature and reading appeal for teens.
