Central Library

Portraits by Louisville artist Rong Liang will be on display at the Central Library Gallery January 28 to February 29, 2012.

The Central Library Gallery in conveniently located right inside the doors the the Central Library and is open during Library Hours.

Bio of Rong Liang
I was born in Guangzhou, China - a city of 10 million people approximately and about 85 miles northwest of Hong Kong. It is the capital city of the province of Guangdong, formerly known as Canton and is famous for Cantonese dialect and Cantonese food.
I began my formal arts studies in 1979 when I was 15 at the Guangzhou Arts and Crafts. I continued my studies at the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts in the beginning of 1984 and then taught in the Oil Painting Department there in 1988 after the graduation. In late 1988 I entered the Central Institute of Fine Arts in Beijing, the most celebrated Fine Arts School in China, studying both oil painting and sculpture.
I've taught private lessons in Boston and San Francisco. Since residing in Indiana in the Summer of 2006, I have had works displayed at the Swanson Reed Gallery in Louisville, Actors Theatre of Louisville, the Louisville Jewish Art Center, the Howard Steamboat Museum in Jeffersonville, the Women's Club of Louisville, the Kentucky Museum of Art& Craft, the Louisville Slugger Museum, and the Louisville Visual Art Association. I have also sold works at Saint James's Art Fair, Madison Chautauqua, and Mellwood (Louisville) September Art Fair, among others. I also have worked for education program with Crane House, The Asia Institute Inc.

My favorite medium is oil on canvas but I have also worked extensively with ink on parchment. The majority of my work is still lifes. I also have a number of human studies. And lately, I have incorporated local landscapes to my mix.
