Computer Classes

This is a list of upcoming computer classes at Lexington Public Library locations.  Unless noted, all classes are free, one-time sessions.  Advance registration is required and can be completed by clicking on the class's "Register Now" link.

Please note any prerequisites and review General Class Information before registering for a class.  You can view a diagram of the sequence of classes here.  Handouts and files used in classes can be accessed here.

3D Printing Basics

3D printing has made its way to the Digital Studio! This 2-hr session will run through the basics of using our new 3D printers. We'll start with setting up a print job, work our way through loading the filament, and finish by printing a small object.

Completion of this course is required to utilize the Digital Studio's 3D makerspace.

Advanced Facebook

Facebook isn't just for fun and games! Learn to use Facebook's advanced features to organize groups, make pages, coordinate events, and market your organization or cause to other Facebook users. Prerequisites: Introduction to Facebook

Advanced Features of MS Word

One hundred and one ways to customize Word for your convenience! Also, tables. And Mail Merge. Prerequisite: Intermediate Features of MS Word or considerable previous experience with word.

Learn to colorize a black and white photo with Photoshop actions and painting. All photos will be provided.

Final Cut Pro X Basics

Learn how to use the professional film and television industry standard software to create your own video project. This class will cover basic video and audio editing, as well as adding audio and video effects.

Prerequisite: iMovie.

Learn the more advanced editing functions of Final Cut Pro X including: color correction, green screen effects, and much more. All "problem" video clips will be provided for you.

Learn the basics of GarageBand, the audio recording and editing software from Apple.

How to Be a Successful YouTuber:

Learn to be a YouTuber from the ground up. This class will start with the basics of finding, organizing, and playing your favorite YouTube videos. It will also explore uploading video content to YouTube, as well as how to overcome some of the most common challenges encountered along the way. Prerequisites: Internet Basics

Ever thought about learning a computer language, but had no clue where to start? Students will get a general overview of computer languages, along with some gentle exploration of using basic Python3 code. Prerequisite: Internet Basics or prior experience navigating the web.

Intermediate Features of MS Word

Copy! Paste! Make a bulleted list! Discover some of Word's trickier features like headers, footnotes, and labels. Prerequisite: Introduction to MS Word or previous experience with Word.

Intermediate Web Development with CSS

Learn to make static webpages pop with CSS! This course will build on prior experience with HTML, teaching how to use Cascading Style Sheets to turn simple HTML documents into the stylized, dynamic pages seen today on most modern websites. This course will cover methods for adding CSS to HTML files, text styling, page styling, positioning, divs, spans, and much much more. Prerequisites: Introduction to Web Development or prior experience with HTML5

Get an overview of some of the more popular blogging sites, learn how to navigate around a blog and discover the basics of posting and commenting. Prerequisite: Email Basics or previous internet experience. You must have a working email address to create an account.

Introduction to Facebook

Get up to speed on how to create, use, and maintain a Facebook page of your own, including understanding the complex Facebook privacy policies and settings. Learn the ins and outs of one of the most widely used social networking programs. Prerequisite: Email basics. Must have a Valid Email Address.

Introduction to Mac

We will cover the basics of using Apple software and hardware. Some experience with computers is necessary. This class will be using Mac OS X El Capitan.

Introduction to Photoshop

Fix "Red-eye" and remove blemishes from portraits. Learn how to move parts of one photo to another and add text. Prerequisite: Introduction to MS Word or previous experience with photo manipulation software.

Pinterest is a popular social media site for creating virtual pin boards of the things you discover online. With Pinterest, you can create and share pin boards on any subject you can imagine, from vintage cars to funny cat videos to your favorite tutorials. Join the fun and explore what other people are pinning. Prerequisite: Email basic or equivalent experiences. Must have a Valid Email Address.

Learn to create business cards, greeting cards, fliers and more in Microsoft's graphics oriented home publishing program. Prerequisite: Intermediate Features of MS Word or previous experience using publishing software.
