New Tool Provides Free, Easy Analysis of Foundation Data

New York, NY ? December 20, 2007. Trend Tracker , a free search tool now available at the Foundation Center’s web site, offers immediate, interactive access to the Center’s historical financial data on U.S. grantmakers.

For the first time, grantmakers, grantseekers, policymakers, the media, and anyone with an interest in philanthropy can tap the Center’s database to quickly and easily create statistical reports of foundations’ fiscal data. A simple but powerful analytic tool, Trend Tracker allows users to create charts and graphs detailing information on the nation’s top 20,000 foundations. Users can review an individual grantmaker’s fiscal data or compare up to five foundations and create easy-to-read charts, line graphs, or tables displaying historical assets, gifts received, expenditures, or giving information.

"Trend Tracker presents the Center’s historical data in ways that can assist our various audiences, such as helping grantmakers benchmark their growth and giving with respect to other foundations. Grantseekers can use it to increase understanding of foundations’ giving over time, for example, as part of their research on prospective donors," said Jeffrey Falkenstein, the Center’s senior director of database publishing.

Trend Tracker is part of Fact Finder, a suite of free tools including Foundation Finder and 990 Finder, which provide quick access to key information on foundations and other nonprofit organizations. Trend Tracker currently covers the years 2000-2005, and subsequent years will be added as that data becomes available. The Center will also be adding other interactive tools for analyzing data about foundations and their giving.
