A New Village Branch

Village Branch, our beloved library and community center, is growing. Since 2004, this space has served its neighbors, providing access to books, education, entertainment, vital resources, and resources. Although the location is staying put, the new facility will contain a total of 30,000 square feet — plenty of room for more activities, more services, and more room to grow.

Here, learn more about the project and how you can get involved.

New facility will remain at previous location with a larger footprint and expanded offerings

Lexington, Kentucky (August 18, 2022) – The Lexington Public Library broke ground on a new, significantly larger facility in the former Village Branch location on Versailles Road to better provide for the needs of the neighborhoods it serves. The new branch will reflect the community’s vision for a state-of-the-art community hub, one that offers robust resources and a myriad of program and service offerings.  The groundbreaking ceremony was held on Tuesday at a media event featuring Library and City officials. Project Overview

Since 2005, the Lexington Public Library has operated a small, storefront branch at the corner of Versailles Road and Village Drive in the Cardinal Valley Neighborhood. It's time for a change.

It's time to invest in our community.

The Library purchased the site in late 2020 and plans for a new two-story facility which will triple the space available for reading materials, programming, and community access. The Library Foundation has embarked on a capital campaign to raise $5 million for the project so that the Library can continue to program and operate the building at its high standards.
