Funding

The Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government allocates five cents on each $100 of property assessed for local taxation to the Lexington Public Library, the minimum allowed under state law. Forty-nine Kentucky public libraries have higher tax rates, and eight have higher per capita revenue, including Franklin, Scott and Woodford counties. The current fiscal year’s budget is $14,458,964.

Governance

A seven-member board of trustees governs the library, with members appointed by the mayor to four-year terms. A 10-member advisory board assists the board of trustees.
