Jan. 9 through Feb. 21 – Textiles of the World: From the Collection of Denis Penley. Features a beautiful collection from the late weaver/weaving collector, with examples of ancient styles from Africa, South America and Indonesia.
Feb. 27 through April 25 – The Warwick Foundation Presents: The History of the Horse in Lexington. Curator Jim Birchfield will exhibit photography featuring the sites and history of famous horses and the horse industry in the Bluegrass.
May 1 through July 4 – What are the World Equestrian Games? An exhibit examining the various events that make up the FEI Games.
July 10 through Aug. 29 – Kentucky Ecuador Partners Present: The Art of the South American Horse. Beautiful, hand-crafted horse equipment and clothing from the “chagras” (loosely translated, “cowboys”) of northern Ecuador, combined with photographs by Ross Gordon, a Louisville man who is traveling the world in his 1971 Beetle and documenting his trip with photos. This exhibit will feature his photos of the chagras alongside examples of their leatherwork, equipment and costumes. The mountainous region of northern Ecuador is navigated mostly by horse and has a long tradition of horsemanship and beautifully-crafted accoutrements.
Sept. 4 through Oct. 31 – The Literary Horse. From Achilles receiving his immortal chargers to Don Quixote’s farewell to Rocinante, literature is full of memorable stories and poetry about heroic horses and horse-people. This exhibit pairs today’s horse and riders with quotations from some of the world’s greatest books. Photography by Vanessa Wright and quilts by Sheril Drummond will be featured.
Nov. 6 through Jan. 9, 2011 – The Kentucky Guild of Artists and Craftsmen. This show will feature work by some of the guild’s best-known past members, alongside work by current members.
