Online Pressroom - Where Lexington Gets Together

Every year, more than 1.7 million people visit one of the Lexington Public Library’s six locations, and they don’t just come for the books. The Lexington Public Library is the city’s community commons, providing a space for meetings, community events and just generally getting together.

Library-sponsored programs (more than 3,000 of them) draw more than 77,000 people to the library each year. An additional 40,000 attend the 2,700 other programs that are held at the library but sponsored by other organizations. These include organizational meetings as well as community events such as film festivals, educational or professional development programs and election forums.

With help from Good Foods Market & Cafe, the library also brings people together at Good Foods Chapter 2 on the Central Library’s first floor. The Northside Branch also features its own deli.
