Award Winning Books for Adults

Below we have provided a list to several of the awards that are given out each year.

Agatha Awards

The Agatha Awards honor the traditional mystery - books best typified by the works of Agatha Christie. The genre is generally characterized by mysteries that contain no explicit sex, excessive gore, or gratuitous violence; usually featuring an amateur detective, they have a confined setting and characters who know one another.

Booker Prize

The Man Booker Prize for Fiction represents the very best in contemporary fiction. One of the world's most prestigious awards, and one of incomparable influence, it continues to be the pinnacle of ambition for every fiction writer. The Booker Prize aims to reward the best novel of the year written by a citizen of the Commonwealth or the Republic of Ireland. The Man Booker judges are selected from the country’s finest critics, writers and academics to maintain the consistent excellence of the prize.

Bram Stoker Awards

Each year, the Horror Writer's Association presents the Bram Stoker Awards for Superior Achievement, named in honor of Bram Stoker, author of the seminal horror work, Dracula.

National Book Award

Through The National Book Awards -- the nation's preeminent literary prize - the National Book Foundation recognizes books of exceptional merit written by Americans.

National Book Critics Circle

Every year the NBCC presents awards for the finest books and reviews published in English.

Pulitzer Prize

The Pulitzer Prize is an American award regarded as the highest honor in print journalism, literary achievements, and musical compositions. It is administered by Columbia University in New York City.

The Edgars

The Edgar Allan Poe Awards (the "Edgars") are named after MWA's patron saint, Edgar Allan Poe, and are awarded to authors of distinguished work in various categories of the mystery genre.
