Library databases contain information that may not be accessible via Internet search engines, including newspaper and magazine articles, business information, and educational resources.  These are fee-based services that are made available to you at no charge as a Lexington Public Library cardholder.

The complete list of Library databases can be found here.  All databases are accessible inside Lexington Public Library locations, and many are also accessible remotely with your library card number and PIN.

Problems accessing Library databases may be due to one of the following reasons:

Ancestry Library Edition, Foundation Directory Online
These databases are available only to customers inside Lexington Public Library locations.

Vendor technical problems
Database vendor servers occasionally go down for short periods. In such cases, wait several minutes before attempting access again. Scheduled downtimes (i.e. for maintenance) are typically noted on the individual databases.

Log into your account, and click Account Summary in the Account menu.   Click on the appropriate links in the Account Summary screen to update your contact information, PIN, EZ Username, or EZ Password.  If you cannot access your online account, please contact us.

Note:  In order to access all Library services, please use four numbers for your PIN.

Any downloadable audiobooks that you've checked out will automatically expire on the due date.  If you'd like to return a downloadable audiobook prior to the due date, you can do so.  Instructions vary by device and can be found using OverDrive Help.  Visit Libby Help for information specific to OverDrive's Libby App.

When your hold arrives at the designated pickup location, you will be notified via telephone, email, or text message.  To check for arrived holds, log into your account and click the Holds link in the Account menu.  Items that are ready for pickup will display a status of Arrived.  To change your notification method, log into... more info

Most items can be renewed if there are no customers with outstanding holds.  The renewal period is the same length as the original loan period and extends the due date from the date of the renewal. Eligible items will renew automatically three days before the due date.

To renew items yourself, log into your account and click Loans in the Account menu.  You should see a list of your checked out items.  Click Renew Loan... more info

In search results, availability status displays Available or Not Available.  Click "View Selected Locations" to see which Library locations have available copies.


To cancel a hold, log into your account and click Holds in the Account menu.  Click Cancel Hold for the hold that you would like to cancel.  To suspend a hold, click Suspend Until for the hold that you would like to suspend and select a date from the calendar.

To find your position on the holds list, log into your account and click the Holds link in the Account menu.  Your position on the list is listed below the item’s title.  This number indicates the number of reserves before yours; when your reserve comes in, the status will say Arrived.

If you are having problems logging into your online library account, you may have an incorrect library card number or PIN saved in your browser. If this is the case, you will usually get an error that your login has failed even when your browser fills in the information for you.  When you first log into a web site, your browser will ask if you want it to remember your password. You should always read these dialog boxes carefully and answer accordingly.

To check your holds list, log into your account, then click the Holds link in the Account menu.  There, you can find all items on your holds list, plus status and current position on the list for each.

With constant changes in computer technology, regularly updating software is important not only for compatibility issues but also for good security practices.

If you are having trouble viewing or using our web site, updating your web browser may help.  Older versions can be updated to the most current one for free:

By default, your PIN is the last four digits of your phone number or the phone number you used when you applied for your library card.  If your PIN isn't working, contact us or visit any of our locations to have a staff member reset it for you.
