-
Marksbury Family Branch - Community Room A

MS. NORA WILLIAMS FROM MADDOXTOWN is a documentary short film that details aspects of everyday life in the rural, African-American hamlet of Maddoxtown, located in Fayette County, Kentucky.

The documentary features archival photographs of Maddoxtown and it's residential family as well as Faraway Farm, where Ms. Williams' father worked as a groom for notable thoroughbred racehorses, including the Horse of the Century, Man o' War.

Ms. Williams' recollection of her education during the 1930s at Maddoxtown and Douglass Schools provides insight into the instrumental ways that the African-American community came together to support education within their community.

A 15-minute documentary film presentation on Monday, August 11th will begin at 3:30 PM in Community Room A at Marksbury Family Branch, followed by a filmmaker talk with Eli Scarr.

Produced by Eli Scarr and co-produced by Yvonne Giles and Kalvin Graves.
