Back in the Wings: Freddie Dunn's Lexington: 250Lex documentary showing

-
Northside Branch - Large Meeting Room

Lexington native Freddie Dunn (1930-2012) was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, veteran, East End resident, original Lyric Theatre employee, construction worker, Phoenix Hotel dining room mainstay, Dupree Catering bartending legend, and all-around city of Lexington foctotum.

In the endeavor to preserve Freddie Dunn's narrative account of African American life experience in 20th century Lexington, Eli Scarr produced an independent documentary comprised of spontaneous, unrehearsed interviews with Freddie.

The documentary features archival photographs of downtown Lexington, highlighted by the historic East End neighborhood. Indelible images by photographer Calvert McCann that graced the research and development of the documentary were first published in an illuminating photo book from the Black America Series titled Lexington, Kentucky, (2002) by University of Kentucky Professor Dr. Gerald Smith.

This independently produced, non-profit documentary notably was edited at Lexington Public Library Northside Branch in the Digital Studio.
