Lexington, Kentucky (September 19, 2022) – Lexington Public Library is proud to join libraries around the country to celebrate intellectual freedom alongside the American Library Association during Banned Books Week from September 18-24. This year’s theme is “Books Unite Us. Censorship Divides Us”.
What is a "banned book?" This refers to a book that has been removed from the shelves - or censored - because an individual or group questioned its merit. LPL works hard to offer something for everyone in our community because they believe that our rich diversity of people, cultures, and ideas make us even stronger. As a public library, they are committed to providing access to the world’s information and knowledge.
You can celebrate your Freedom to Read by visiting any of the six LPL library locations, snapping a selfie with your favorite controversial book, and tagging us online at @lexpublib using #BannedBooksWeek and #LPLreads.
