What does it take to escape your destiny? Trying to leave their troubled lives behind, twin brothers return to their Mississippi hometown to start again, only to discover that an even greater evil is waiting to welcome them back.

Join us for an evening with acclaimed poet, author, and educator Frank X. Walker, a pioneer of the Affrilachian literary movement and former Kentucky Poet Laureate. Professor Walker will share insights from his groundbreaking work, discuss the power of storytelling in shaping cultural identity, and reflect on his journey as a writer and advocate for Appalachian voices.

Based on the 2019 bestselling novel by Colson Whitehead, Nickel Boys follows two African-American boys, Elwood and Turner, who are sent to an abusive reform school in 1960s Florida.

We will have special guest Uneeda K. Bryant, DVM Associate Professor of Veterinary Pathology and Veterinary Pathologist at the University of Kentucky. Dr. Bryant will be bringing heart specimens for participants to get an up close look!

Participants are welcome to drop-in anytime between 3:30-5:30 pm and stay as little or as long as you would like!

Join Northside staff and learn to make a simple, traditional Cathedral Windows quilt. Make one block each month and you will make a finished small quilt or throw by the end of 12 months! Fabric and sewing tools provided while supplies last. Prerequisites: you must already be able to thread a needle and hand sew a straight stitch and a slip stitch. Please register if you plan to attend.

Watercolor painting club with a lesson each month suitable for beginners, dilettantes, and anyone who just wants to hang out and paint with us. We will be following a series of tutorials that start with the basics at our first meeting and build on those skills with each class that follows. Air plants are members of the diverse Tillandisa genus which is in the bromeliad family. In their native habitat of tropical and subtropical North and South America, these epiphytic plants will be found clinging to trunks and branches of other plants or anything else they can sit on including rocks and buildings.
