Cherie started her nonprofit at the Library
Cherie’s nonprofit organization helps women put their lives back together after the storm of domestic violence. She got the organization started at the Lexington Public Library with help from the library’s Grants Collection and the collection’s designated librarian.
“She was like my angel,” Cherie says.
The library helped Cherie through the process of applying for the Internal Revenue Service’s 501(c)(3) status as a nonprofit organization so she could move on quickly to the work of helping others.
“We advocate for women who are survivors and victims of domestic violence. So we offer them local resources, help them if there in need of emergency shelter. And we offer a support group to help women in our community who are struggling with trying to make it after their storm of domestic violence.”
