February is Black History Month, so we will celebrate with an "African American Cookbook Edition"! African American Cuisine, often called Soul Food, has a rich heritage with its roots in the rural South and the culinary innovations of traditional West African dishes. Members can choose a recipe from one of the African American cookbooks provided or use their own recipe to contribute a dish.

UpfromSumdirt, aka Ronald W. Davis, is an autodidactic poet, visual artist, and designer from Louisville, Kentucky. He is the illustrator of A Is for Affrilachia and the NAACP Image Award–winning Perfect Black.

Join us for an evening with acclaimed poet, author, and educator Frank X. Walker, a pioneer of the Affrilachian literary movement and former Kentucky Poet Laureate. Professor Walker will share insights from his groundbreaking work, discuss the power of storytelling in shaping cultural identity, and reflect on his journey as a writer and advocate for Appalachian voices.

Not an artist? Not a problem! We'll provide the art supplies; you provide the creativity during this open art program. Recommend for 5-12 years old, dress for mess please.

Watercolor painting club with a lesson each month suitable for beginners, dilettantes, and anyone who just wants to hang out and paint with us. We will be following a series of tutorials that start with the basics at our first meeting and build on those skills with each class that follows. Registration required so I will be able to purchase enough supplies for everyone.

Practice your English speaking skills in a group meeting every week. In this casual class we will practice & improve your English. Intermediate English listening comprehension, reading practice & conversation with an emphasis on cultural topics. For adults. Registration is not required. FALL CLASSES BEGIN AUGUST 11.

Join Northside staff and learn to make a simple, traditional Cathedral Windows quilt. Make one block each month and you will make a finished small quilt or throw by the end of 12 months! Fabric and sewing tools provided while supplies last. Prerequisites: you must already be able to thread a needle and hand sew a straight stitch and a slip stitch. Please register if you plan to attend.
