What can I expect when I visit the library?

Many aspects of library operations have changed in order to keep our customers, staff, and community safe.  This video and FAQ are provided to help you understand what to expect when you visit our buildings.  It is not intended to be a comprehensive list.  We appreciate your patience, support, and cooperation as we continue serving you to the best of our ability.


When can I enter the library?
Beaumont, Eastside, Northside , and Tates Creek branches are open to the public on Monday–Saturday, 11am-6pm. All other locations are closed to the public.  The Central Library's Kentucky Room is open by appointment.  Curbside holds pickup is available at all locations on Monday–Saturday, 11am-6pm.

Do I need to wear a mask to enter the library?
Anyone over the age of 5 is required to wear a mask during your library visit.  Masks will be provided at the entrance for customers who need them.

Will I need to wait in line to enter the library?
You may need to wait to enter depending on how many people are already inside the building.  Capacity is reduced in accordance with Kentucky’s Healthy at Work guidelines.  Library staff will be monitoring occupancy at the entrance and may ask you to wait before entering.

How long can I stay inside the library?
In order to provide access to as many customers as possible, please limit your visit to an hour or less.

Where can I return library materials?
Returns are being accepted at all locations via the designated return slots.  Please do not give your returns to a staff member.  Returns will be quarantined for 72 hours and may take up to a week to disappear from your account.  No fines or fees will be charged.

What services are available inside the library?

  • Materials checkout (books, audiobooks, DVDs, etc.)
    Please follow signage and floor markings when browsing our materials to ensure proper social distancing.
  • Computers
    In order to provide access to as many customers as possible, please limit your computer use to 1 one-hour session per day. Staff is able to provide limited assistance only.
  • Printing, faxing, and scanning
    There is no charge for these services.
  • Account and reference assistance
    Staff is able to provide limited assistance only.
  • Northside Branch Digital Studio computers
    Available for limited use by reservation only.  Please contact the Northside Branch in person or at (859) 231-5500 for details.  The Audio Booth, Production Studio, and Video Editing Booth will remain closed until further notice.


What services are not available at this time?

  • Library events, including storytimes
    Please check our Calendar of Events and find us on Facebook for online options.
  • Meeting rooms and study rooms
  • Tables and seating
