The Mentelles of Lexington: Early Kentucky As Seen Through French Eyes

French immigrants Edme and Charlotte Mentelle came to Lexington in 1798. Intimate friends of Henry and Lucretia Clay, they founded a school where Mary Todd spent her teen-age years. Randolph Runyon will discuss this unique family and their role in Lexington history. He is the author of The Mentelles: Mary Todd Lincoln, Henry Clay, and the immigrant family who educated Antebellum Kentucky.
